A post on a Friday! Feels wrong! But when you read this, I will be on my way to Electric Picnic, so I wanted to get in early to keep that content fresh, ya know.Â
I’ve gone to Electric Picnic many times over the last decade and, while the lineup is not particularly inspiring this year (it’s… radio-friendly, to say the least), I know for a fact that a stunning weekend will be had regardless.Â
I don’t do festival fashion per se – it’s so weird but I enjoy being comfortable and warm? – but I really love experimenting with my makeup. I used to be all about a colourful liner or shimmery eye in my regular life, but this year I’ve mostly been slapping on a brown eyeshadow and calling it a day, so I’m excited to play again.
We’re camping (glamping technically, but in a normal person way and not in an influencer-sponsored-by-an-alcohol-brand way), so I’m trying to keep it lean while acknowledging the need for glitter and colour. Here’s what I’m bringing.
Base products
Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base: It has to come, because my foundation looks crap without it. I can also use it as a moisturiser, so it’s serving two purposes.
Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Foundation: I was going back and forth between Haus Labs and Luminous Silk but I have been loving this so much at the moment that I’m going to pick it over the old reliable. I know.
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter: Another thing I just don’t do my makeup without. She’s coming with me.
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer and Sculpted by Aimee Complete Cover Up Concealer: The usuals.
Sculpted by Aimee Velvet Veil Mini Pressed Powder: Because it’s tiny! And also because it’s a very nice powder.
Blush would usually be my downfall but I’m being very serious here:
Haus Labs Color Fuse Blush in Dragonfruit Daze: I have an idea for something I’d like to do with this… I’d rather minimise the amount of brushes I have to bring, but the muse is calling and I must answer.
Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk and Storm: These are trusty shades of mine (a browny nude and a warm rose), and go with any makeup look.
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand: I don’t think bronzer is a need, but this can be dabbed on easily with a sponge, so I’ll throw it in.
Lip products
Experience dictates that I have neither the time nor the inclination to stay on top of a gorgeous bold lip at a festival, so I’m going to keep things fairly restrained and glossy.Â
Penneys Lip Liner in Velvet Touch: My favourite liner right now – it’s a perfect reddish nude.
Half Magic Magic Drip in Frosty Bitch: I’m wearing a glittery lip gloss like it’s 2002 and I don’t give a toot.
NYX Lip Pencil in Nude Truffle: This is new to me, and will be my more traditionally nude option.
NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip in Missed Call: Hate the name, love the lip oil. Such is life.
Looking at this now, I feel like throwing in a red like Laura Mercier Fire or Strawberry Shock by Lisa Eldridge… but I just think I won’t go for them. They can come if I have room.
And now for the good stuff
GLITTER. COLOUR. GEMSTONES. These essential parts of the festival makeup food pyramid must be represented.
BPerfect Carnival Palette: This thing is pretty old now and they don’t seem to make this exact one any more, but nothing beats it for sheer variety. The shades are very pigmented and very fun.
Half Magic Chromaddiction in Laviwinkle and Spirit Guide: I have a specific look in mind for these – @olgreeneyesemma loves Half Magic (Euphoria makeup artist Donni Davy’s brand) and I’m excited to try it properly.
Lemonhead LA Space Paste in Jailbait and Adult Film: I got into Lemonhead after Beyoncé wore it at Coachella in 2018 – there weren’t many places doing this kind of glitter gel at the time, though of course you can find it everywhere now. The green is so unusual and cool, and Adult Film is a mesmerising rainbow sparkle. I have more shades but I’m trying to be reasonable.
Assorted face gems: I could not find a single solitary gem in town so these were ordered from Amazon along with a few other camping bits we needed.
Along with this, I’m going to bring my usual brow products (NYX pencil and gel), waterproof mascara (L’Oreal Lash Paradise), eyeliners, lash glue and tweezers for the gems, and eyelash curlers.
As for skincare… I had a moment where I genuinely thought I would go to the water taps and wash my makeup off with a cleanser, but I had to give myself a good talking to. Makeup wipes it shall be, along with lots of SPF. That will make the first post-festival face wash all the sweeter. Wish me luck.
